One Down, Two To Go!

As hard as it is for me to believe, my first year of university is over. My last assignment is finished and handed in (a few days early I might add), and I'm just waiting for the marks.

I must admit, it feels good to get this far, and so far my results have been pretty good. I’m looking forward to having some time to just relax though; read a few books, watch some telly, do some exercise (it’s true what they say, Uni makes you fat).

Over the summer I have set myself the task of learning how to use Ableton Live properly, and I aim to write 5 minutes of music a week. I’m trying to maintain a structured regime, but of stuff I WANT to do, rather than stuff I have to do.

Today I went out to Waterstone’s and bought myself a book of Isaac Asimov’s short stories, and I’m going to be reading one or two a day. I first came across his work on Stumbleupon, there was an online copy of “The Last Question”, and I was riveted by it, and immediately saw the potential for a musical project. With my recent experience recording a spoken word piece, it’d be nice to do something with one of Asimov’s stories, with music, foley effects and ambient sounds.

Naturally I’ll be blogging throughout the summer, and I’m going to have a bit of a brainstorm session to plan out a few articles in advance. I normally just write them as I think of them, but that means that sometimes I have nothing to post. If there’s anything you’d like me to talk about, or have any questions about any of the posts, please feel free to leave a comment below, I love getting feedback!
